Pet owners often consider their pets as an equal member of the family. You want only the best for your pet and that should start with preventative healthcare. Diamond Beach Veterinary Clinic offers vaccinations, heartworm prevention, intestinal worming, flea and tick control, nutrition, microchipping services and more. Your pet will get all the care they need at the one location, with an experienced team of veterinary professionals.
Responsible pet care requires regular vaccinations of your pets. These vaccinations protect your dogs and cats from diseases that are not easily treatable. These could include cat flu, chlamydia, distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, bordetella and more.
Vaccinations form a very important part of your pet’s preventative healthcare regime. As part of your vaccination visit we also take the opportunity to give your pet a physical examination and discuss any concerns you may have. A regular health check is just as important as the vaccinations.
At Diamond Beach Veterinary Clinic, we recommend the initial vaccinations and then yearly vaccinations for life. This ensures your pet has the most up to date version of the vaccination, allows you to board your pet at kennels and catteries which require yearly vaccination and provides for better protection when they are socialising with other pets, especially holiday makers, whose vaccination status may not be known.
Heartworm is a disease that infects the heart of a dog. This parasite attaches itself to the arteries in the heart and can cause heart and lung disease with fatal consequences. Mosquitoes are transmitters of heartworm, which means your dog could be at risk, even if it doesn’t leave the house.
Disease prevention starts at 12 weeks of age and continues for the life of your pet by using one of the following products:
Age | Injection | Time |
---|---|---|
Puppies | Proheart Injection | Three, Six, and 15 months |
Adult dogs | Proheart Injection | Once a year |
If your adult dog has not been on any form of heartworm prevention, it is recommended that a heartworm test is performed prior to starting any preventative medication.
Flea Control
Flea control should be started as soon as you get your pet home. Fleas breed very fast, and just a few fleas can lay sufficient eggs to contaminate your home and surroundings for several months. Flea control should be effective against all stages of the flea life cycle. All animals in your household should be treated, and treatment should continue all year round. The friendly and professional team at Diamond Beach Veterinary Clinic can assist with flea prevention and control for your pets.

Tick Prevention
Paralysis Ticks are common in bushland and coastal areas, but native animals like possums and bandicoots can carry them to your backyard. A Paralysis Tick affects your pet by injecting a deadly toxin, which causes paralysis of the limbs and eventually progressing to respiratory and heart failure.
Ticks are most commonly active between August and March but can be seen all year round. Daily searching of your pet is a MUST during peak times.

Your pet's health and vitality can depend on what you feed them. Pets need the right balance of nutrients carefully matched to their age and activity level. They need a diet that provides the right amount of quality proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, but also avoids potentially harmful excess salt and minerals.
Royal Canin Diets are nutritionally balanced and highly digestible and palatable. They have formulas that suit every pet's life stage while remaining economical and convenient. The friendly and experienced team at Diamond Beach Veterinary Clinic can help you when considering the best diet for your pet.
A microchip is the most effective form of identification for your pet. Modern microchips are about the size of a grain of rice and are implanted beneath the animal's skin between the shoulders. No personal information is stored on the microchip, only the unique identification number. This number and your details are then listed on the NSW Companion Animal Register.
In NSW, all cats and dogs, other than exempt cats and dogs, must be microchipped
by 12 weeks of age or before being sold or given away, whichever happens first.
All cats and dogs, other than exempt cats and dogs, must be registered by six months of age. The registration fee is a once-only payment, which covers the cat or dog for its lifetime in NSW, regardless of any changes in ownership. You are encouraged to have your cat or dog desexed before registering it as discounted registration fees apply to desexed cats and dogs.
Listing of the microchip on the NSW Companion Animal Register and registration with the council are 2 separate items.
