  • Do I have to make an appointment?

Yes, please contact us by phone so we can schedule the most appropriate time for you. If it is an emergency, please call us and we will do our best to fit you in as quickly as possible.

  • Are vaccinations necessary?

Responsible pet care involves vaccinating your pet regularly. Vaccinations are the best way to protect your pet from a variety of diseases. If you put off vaccinating your pet, they might develop a disease that cannot be cured, which can have fatal consequences.

  • Does my dog need vaccinations every year?

After the initial puppy vaccinations, vaccinations should be given each year of your adult dog’s life.

At Diamond Beach Veterinary Clinic, we recommend the initial vaccinations and then yearly vaccinations for life. This ensures your pet has the most up to date version of the vaccination, allows you to board your pet at kennels and catteries which require yearly vaccination and provides for better protection when they are socialising with other pets, especially holiday makers, whose vaccination status may not be known.

  • My dog doesn't mix with other dogs. Does it still have to have heartworm prevention?

Heartworm infects the dog’s heart and can cause heart and lung disease. Mosquitoes cause heartworm, which means your dog does not even have to leave the house to get infected. Disease prevention should continue for the life of your pet. If your dog hasn’t been on heartworm prevention before, a heartworm test is necessary before starting a preventative medication.

  • What is the best age for desexing?

Here is a quick overview of the best age for desexing depending on your pet:

Female cats – from five months of age

Male cats – from six months of age

Female dogs – from five months of age

Male dogs – from six months of age

  • My pet doesn't go out of the backyard. Does it still need tick prevention?

Although paralysis ticks are commonly present in bushland and coastal areas, native animals like possums and bandicoots can carry it to your backyard. That is why tick prevention is necessary even if your pet doesn’t go out of the backyard.

Ticks are most commonly active between August and March, but they can appear all year long. Daily searching of your pet is a must during peak times, and certain products can help in controlling ticks.

  • What do I do if I have an emergency?

Give us a call as soon as possible. Diamond Beach Veterinary Clinic is open for emergencies even on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays.

  • Should I get pet insurance?

Pet insurance is similar to human health insurance. If you choose the right policy, it can help to alleviate some costs of keeping your pet healthy.

  • Do you have accounts? What payment systems do you offer?

We respectfully advise that all fees must be paid at time of consultation or when your pet is discharged from hospital. EFTPOS facilities are available and we accept Visa and Mastercard.
